A Love Letter to The Office

At 14/15 years old I was probably a little too young to be a big fan of the British Office, but I was and when I found out the Steve Carell (who I loved from the Daily Show) was going to star in an American version I was very excited. So in 2005 I was one of a kind of small amount of people who watched the pilot episode as it first aired and I have never missed an episode since. As season two got underway during my sophomore year of high school I drove my family crazy by constantly quoting the show and began badgering my friends to start watching it because I needed people to talk about it with. As the year went on people I knew started watching and my friends and I started to bond over this show. While most people who knew me in high school knew me as the crazy Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings fan, some of my best memories of high school revolve around The Office. Whether it was getting to school early and playing Office hangman with Erika and Meara in Peavey's classroom, stealing Peavey's stapler with Natalie and putting it in jello, driving to Scranton, PA with my dad for The Office Convention, or knowing that the first thing my friends and I were going to talk about on Friday mornings was the previous night's episode The Office was always around.

Inspired by Jim Halpert (and well Tim Canterbury) I stole Peavey's stapler and Natalie and I put it in jello.

Unlike Dwight, she loved it.

Even after high school, and as even I can admit the show went a little down hill, it stayed important to me. It's no secret that I didn't really like being at Plymouth State University, but I did enjoy meeting up with Erika on Thursday nights to watch The Office together. And while I said that I brought my laptop with me on my trip to London so that I could talk to my mom on my birthday, I may have also brought it with me with the hope that I would find time to watch Michael's last episode.

Dwight's capa was detated from his head on my move in day to Plymouth. I was devastated, but with the help of Erika reattached his head.

I know it's kind of ridiculous to become so attached and involved in the lives of fictional characters, but come on everyone knows that this happens easily to me. I can't help it when characters are so well written and come to life so well. The characters on The Office have made me laugh endlessly, cry like a baby, cringe in discomfort and smile from ear to ear. I rooted for Jim and Pam from day one and gladly went on a roller coaster of emotions with them. I loved Michael and Dwight's antics and even rooted for them.

While I often complain about how crowed my Thursday night line up is, The Office will definitely be leaving a noticeable hole. I'll miss seeing what is happening at Dunder Mifflin every week. It's been a great 8 years watching these characters and I'll miss them. Thanks for the memories Dunder Mifflin.
